Our Approach to Small Group Tours

Small Groups

Our tours are designed for a maximum of 12 travelers, creating an intimate atmosphere that allows for personal attention and flexibility during the trip.

Group Leader & Local Guides

All Trico Tours group tours are accompanied by one of our dedicated group leaders. Their primary role is to take the hassle out of your travels, ensuring you have the most enjoyable and stress-free experience possible. Group leaders are not guides in the traditional sense; however, they do have general knowledge of the countries and sites on the itinerary, and experience in the country. They provide valuable information about the destinations you’ll visit, offer suggestions for activities and attractions, help arrange optional tours and activities for free days, and will introduce you with our local contacts so ensure a smooth experience.

For deeper, location-specific knowledge, we collaborate with a variety of local guides with specialized knowledge at key points in the tour, giving you the best of both worlds.

Flexibility

At Trico Tours, we believe that flexibility is essential to making the most of your travel experience. While we provide thoughtfully curated itineraries that highlight the best of each destination, we also include free time for you to explore independently or explore at your own pace. Whether you want to wander through a quiet town, try a local café, or take a break to relax, our flexible approach allows for a personalized experience. Of course, the group leader will offer options for the free days; we often find that our small groups appreciate the suggested experiences and enjoy each other's company so much that they choose to spend much of their free time together!

One of the greatest rewards of traveling with Trico Tours is the chance to connect with like-minded travelers. Our tours attract those who are curious about the world, enjoy exploring lesser-known destinations, and seek authentic experiences away from the usual tourist crowds. It’s the perfect environment to meet fellow travelers, share stories, and create friendships that often extend well beyond the tour.

Meals Inclusions

We offer a welcome dinner at the beginning of the tour and a farewell dinner at the end of the tour because we love these occasions to spend meals together!

Other meals shared together as a group will be included during specific parts of the itinerary. We include meals when there aren't many options (such as at a ranch) and in order to avoid the confusion of separating the bill. For group meals, we may offer a limited menu. Many meals are left open for you to explore local cuisine on your own, giving you the freedom to choose both the dining location and menu options according to your preferences, appetite and budget.

Solo Travelers & Private Room Supplements

If you are a solo traveler, and you are open to sharing accommodations, we will do our best to match you with another same-sex traveler. For solo travelers who prefer their own room or if a suitable roommate cannot be found, a private room supplement will be applied to cover the cost of your private room. If you are traveling with a friend, but would each prefer a private room, the private room fee will apply.

Visas and Entry Requirements

A valid passport with at least six months of validity is required for all countries. Visa requirements vary based on your nationality and the countries you will be visiting. It is your responsibility to ensure that you have the correct travel documentation. We recommend contacting the embassy or consulate of each destination for the most up-to-date visa requirements or consulting your travel agent. While we do our best to provide current information and assist with instructions for attaining required visas where possible, visa rules can change unexpectedly. Therefore, it is essential that you verify these requirements independently, as you are fully responsible for securing the necessary visas for your trip.

Tipping

In Latin America, it is customary to tip service providers. While tipping is not mandatory, it is an appreciated gesture of gratitude for service providers. Though it may not be customary in your home country, tipping holds significant value for the people who contribute to your experience.

As a general guideline, it is customary to tip waiters, around 10%, depending on the level of service. We will tip waiters for included meals, however, if you feel inclined to personally show your appreciation, tips are always welcomed and appreciated. It’s customary to tip hotel porters or staff who help carry luggage $2 usd per bag, depending on the level of service and the number of bags. At higher-end hotels, a tip on the higher end of that range is appreciated.

Feel free to ask your group leader for recommendations if you are uncertain.

Children

Our small group tours are designed for mature travelers, unless indicated. We love children and families - we would be happy to plan a private tour that would be better suited for a family!
