Jesuit Missions of La Santísima Trinidad de Paraná
Jesuit Ruins in Paraguay
One of the marvelous aspects about visiting the Jesuit ruins in Paraguay is there are few tourists. Although the ruins were declared UNESCO World Heritage sites in 1993, there are usually very few visitors at any one time. You will be able to wander and wonder at your own pace, appreciate the views, stroll through the remains of the homes of the Guarani and the priests inhabited hundreds of years ago, and peacefully reflect on what it might have been like living in a Jesuit Reduction.
While visiting the Jesuit ruins is a highlight, visiting one or two of the museums where the carved scultures and other artifacts are housed, provides a good sense of the cross-cultural nature of the Jesuit art and architecture, as well as the legacy of the missions in Paraguay.
